Best time to travel
Thanks to its varied climate zones, there is always a region of South Africa at its very best for travel. The seasons here are the reverse of Europe’s, with warm weather from October to March and cooler temperatures from June to August. The Cape region is particularly rewarding during the South African summer. The Eastern Cape is an appealing year-round option, although occasional rainfall can occur in summer. In the malaria-free safari regions around Johannesburg, wildlife viewing is especially rewarding during the South African winter, when the vegetation is sparser and animals gather around waterholes.
