A Healthy Start in Life

On the Indonesian island of Sumba, many expectant mothers lack access to a balanced diet and regular medical care. The consequences often begin even before birth and can affect children for the rest of their lives.

This is exactly where Sumba Smiles comes in. The mother-child program supports women during their pregnancy and in the first few months after giving birth. The goal is to provide mothers with the necessary care and give their children the healthiest possible start in life.

"The First 1,000 Days"

The period from pregnancy through a child’s first years of life is crucial for a child’s physical and mental development. Good care during this early phase can prevent malnutrition, reduce health risks, and lay the foundation for healthy growth.

Since the program began, more than 110 women in Karang Indah have received support. 108 healthy births demonstrate the impact that reliable on-the-ground support can have.

Behind each of these numbers is a mother, a child, and a very personal story.
