Madagascar
Madagascar is the world’s fourth-largest island and is often referred to as the “eighth continent”, thanks to its extraordinary number of animals and plants found nowhere else on earth. Best known are the lemurs, found only in Madagascar, whose wide, soulful eyes win over every traveller. The “Red Island” is defined above all by its remarkable diversity, where not only unique wildlife and plant life meet, but also a rich tapestry of ethnic groups, cultures, traditions and landscapes, from prairies and mountains to tropical forests, spice plantations and rice fields. The island is home to around 50 national parks of exceptional beauty, most of which can be visited. It is also the perfect place for an unforgettable beach escape.
Best time to travel
Given Madagascar’s size and mountainous terrain, there is no single best time to visit the entire island. The island has a tropical climate, with a rainy season from November to April. The north enjoys summer-like temperatures year-round and is ideal between April and November, while the west and south coasts can be visited throughout the year. The east coast is best from July to November, and the highlands from April to October.
