South Africa – Kwandwe Game Reserve
Kwandwe Ecca Lodge
About the hotel
Kwandwe Ecca Lodge lies deep in the South African wilderness of a private reserve, around 130 kilometres north of Gqeberha, formerly Port Elizabeth. From here, guests enjoy a premium view across dramatic shale cliffs. A wooden viewing deck in the main lodge offers yet more wonderful vistas to savour over a delicious drink. The six suites are styled with a youthful, contemporary feel, inspired by the natural textures of the African bush. Floor-to-ceiling windows fill the interiors with light and create a distinctly penthouse-like atmosphere. Families seeking an immersive nature escape without compromising on comfort will feel entirely at home here.
Kids & Teens
Children of all ages are warmly welcomed at Kwandwe Ecca Lodge and receive a welcome gift on arrival: an activity book with animal checklists and themed games, along with coloured pencils. Special children’s safaris and interactive games inspired by the African bush ensure younger guests are never short of entertainment. Children can also enjoy one-hour bush walks within the camp area, treasure hunts, fishing trips, beadwork, tracking, and birdwatching.

Kwandwe Ecca Lodge
in our eyes
Kwandwe Ecca Lodge offers families a child-friendly safari experience with contemporary comfort. Thoughtfully designed safaris, tracking, and cooking classes ensure even the youngest guests are fully immersed in the experience. With spacious suites and private game drives, the lodge is the perfect place to enjoy the African wilderness at an unhurried pace.
Best time to travel
The best time to visit Kwandwe Private Game Reserve is during the dry season from April to September. During these months, the vegetation is sparse, making animals easier to spot. Temperatures are also milder at this time, especially in the morning and evening, which is ideal for game drives.
The second-best time to visit is from October to April, when the rainy season begins. The landscape turns greener and the wildlife becomes especially vibrant. This is when many young animals are born, making the safari experience particularly exciting. However, temperatures can be higher and the weather more unpredictable during these months.

Kwandwe Game Reserve
The malaria-free Kwandwe Private Game Reserve in South Africa’s spectacular Eastern Cape is a true gem for families seeking an exclusive safari experience and the chance to encounter Africa’s remarkable wildlife.
Kwandwe offers not only the chance to see the Big Five – lions, elephants, buffalo, leopards and rhino – in the wild, but also a fascinating variety of other animals, including cheetah and hippo. Safaris here feel especially private and exclusive, as the number of guests in the reserve is deliberately limited.
The landscapes of Kwandwe Game Reserve are as varied as its wildlife – from sweeping grasslands and dense thickets to picturesque riverbanks. This setting creates the perfect backdrop for unforgettable family experiences, whether on exhilarating game drives where children discover nature at close quarters, or through special programmes that introduce young explorers to the secrets of the wild in an engaging way.
