Morukuru Beach Lodge is set within one of Africa’s most beautiful coastal reserves, De Hoop Nature Reserve in the Overberg region. Idyllic sandy beaches, dramatic cliffs, turquoise waters and abundant flora and fauna create the perfect setting to leave everyday life behind and unwind together as a family. The two family suites are charmingly and timelessly styled with a maritime feel, opening onto sweeping panoramic views of the Indian Ocean, the striking fynbos landscape and pristine white dunes. Morning coffee or an evening glass of wine tastes all the better on the balcony.

Morukuru Beach Lodge is thoughtfully designed around the needs of children and families. On arrival, children receive their own "Morukuru Kidz" backpack filled with fun and useful treats: wildlife cards, activity books and much more, all offering interactive and playful insights into flora and fauna, birds and Africa more broadly. There are also child-focused activities such as baking biscuits, marine walks and board games. The lodge is part of the Morukuru Family, created especially for families and groups of friends travelling together. Children of all ages are warmly welcomed in all houses.

At Morukuru Beach Lodge, your family can enjoy a wide range of experiences in this beautiful setting: watch whales and dolphins directly from the shore, set out on guided walks through De Hoop Nature Reserve or explore the fascinating intertidal zone on a beach walk. Particularly striking are the picturesque sunsets, best enjoyed during a relaxed picnic on the beach. Bites Beach Café offers wonderful spots overlooking the sea, and with a little luck, passing whales too. The menu is pleasingly relaxed, with everything from salads and seafood to pizza and burgers.

Best time to travel
De Hoop Nature Reserve is an impressive year-round destination, depending on your preferred activities. From July to November, southern right whales draw visitors to the coast as they come here to give birth – ideal for whale watching.
During the summer months from December to Februaryy, temperatures are warm and sunny, perfect for beach days and walks through the reserve’s rich plant life. Autumn, from March to May, brings mild weather that is especially well suited to hiking and birdwatching. As such, De Hoop offers a variety of unforgettable nature experiences throughout the year.

Anreise
The lodge offers guests private charter flights from Cape Town International Airport to De Hoop Nature Reserve. Flight time is 45 minutes. On arrival at the airstrip, guests are transferred to the Beach Lodge by vehicle (journey time around 25 minutes). Helicopter transfers can also be arranged. By car, the journey from Cape Town takes around 3 hours.
De Hoop Nature Reserve
De Hoop Nature Reserve, a beautiful protected area on South Africa’s south coast (around three hours from Cape Town and close to the Garden Route), is known for its biodiversity, breathtaking coastal landscapes and rich plant life. Thanks to its rich ecological diversity, it was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2004. This scenic region offers families a perfect blend of nature, adventure and relaxation.
Walking trails through the reserve reveal sweeping coastal views and the chance to observe a variety of animals such as eland, bontebok and Cape mountain zebra. Particularly captivating are the seasonal cliff walks, where whales and dolphins can often be spotted out at sea. In the picturesque lagoons, families can watch birds and learn more about the native flora and fauna. For the more adventurous, guided mountain bike tours offer the chance to explore the reserve’s breathtaking landscapes.
