Inspiring vacation tips for families who want tomake the most of their vacation

Autumn, so much for gray and rainy. The vacations are the best time to discover worldwide destinations with the family. Whether it's two weeks in October or a week in November, we've put together some hand-picked recommendations for you. In this travel guide for the fall vacations, we'll take you around the world and show you places that will make you forget all about everyday life.

The round trips mentioned are sample itineraries that we will be happy to tailor to your family's wishes and needs.

Two weeks family vacation in October

If you want to make the most of your autumn vacation, it's best to make the most of every single day. Our tips and recommendations, from round trips to beach vacations, are listed below.

Chile

In the land of contrasts

While the leaves are changing color here, spring is just beginning in Chile. Families looking for natural diversity in its purest form start our 14-day round trip in the vibrant metropolis of Santiago de Chile, from where they set off to explore the impressive landscapes.

The glacier worlds of Patagonia, the play of colors of the Atacama Desert and the majestic Iguazú Falls are three highlights that show explorers the breathtaking beauty of nature. The end of the trip takes you to the capital of Argentina, Buenos Aires, for three nights. Even more South American temperament, Tango Argentino and lively hustle and bustle await families there. A round trip that definitely leaves gray autumn days in Germany behind.

Mauritius

Summer dreams on the Indian Ocean

Summer slowly awakens on Mauritius in the German fall. The beaches glow in the sunlight and the water is pleasantly warm. If you fancy a beach vacation with peace and style, we recommend the following resorts:

One&Only Le Saint Géran

The legendary One&Only Le Saint Géran is located on a private peninsula on the north-east coast and offers peace and seclusion. However, there is never a dull moment, as the resort offers numerous activities in addition to swimming. Specially developed programs for children and teenagers as well as sports and water activities ensure plenty of fun, even for the little ones. Those who simply want to put their feet up can spend hours gazing out over the blue Indian Ocean and daydreaming in the elegant and spacious suites and villas.

St. Regis Le Morne Mauritius

Active families will find luxury and exclusivity combined with sporting extras at the St. Regis Le Morne Mauritius resort . The local mountain Le Morne Brabant with a height of 556 meters was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List as a cultural landscape in 2008. Whether it's a hike along this impressive landmark or a variety of water sports activities, this is a beach vacation in a class of its own.

Safari in southern Africa

The dry season in Southern Africa means perfect safari conditions, top game viewing, a low risk of malaria and African wilderness at its best. We recommend the following destinations to families who want to hear the wild heart of Africa beat during the fall vacations:

Botswana

We know from our own experience: on a round trip through Botswana, exciting animal sightings are guaranteed and there is never a dull moment. Admire the vastness of the Makgadikgadi salt pans with your family and then experience the opposite in the Okavango Delta: fertile, lush green landscapes where elephants and hippos loll in the water with relish. The trip also includes encounters with meerkats, boat trips in a dugout canoe and a meeting with the local San people. The last stage of this trip takes you to the Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe. On a helicopter flight, you will be amazed by the gigantic dimensions of the waterfalls.

Our favorite lodges on this trip:

DumaTau and San Camp: safari icons, luxury oases, romantic retreats.

Namibia

A 14-day round trip through the land of endless expanses takes families past breathtaking landscapes, the highest dunes in the world, wild stretches of coastline and, with a bit of luck, even the rare desert elephants. Each stage also offers adventures such as desert hikes, fantastic balloon rides and action-packed quad biking. You will realize: Namibia's deserts are not at all monotonous.

Our favorite lodges on this trip:

andBeyond Sossusvlei & Serra Cafema, which both impress with their location in the middle of the wilderness, offer a select and high level of privacy and families don't have to do without any amenities.

Zambia

On this round trip, spectacular safari experiences in Zambia meet relaxed beach idyll in Malawi. At the beginning, the mighty Victoria Falls are close enough to touch and provide impressive moments. The tour continues into one of Zambia's most wildlife-rich areas. Unforgettable animal sightings take place both on game drives on land and on boat and canoe trips on the mighty Zambezi. At the end of the trip, you can relax and unwind on Lake Malawi. Time to process the many impressions you have gathered and to come to rest. The 14-day round trip through Zambia is a perfect combination of nature, safari, adventure and relaxation for young and old.

Our favorite lodges on this trip:

⭐ Matetsi Victoria Falls & Time + Tide Lodges Chinzombo & Chongwe: The lodges impress with their proximity to the Victoria Falls and their special location in the Zambian wilderness, where you fall asleep to the grunting of hippos.

Oman

Magic between desert and mountains

A country full of contrasts awaits just six hours away by plane: oases, wadis, desert and rugged mountain ranges. A round trip through Oman is a journey through different worlds in a different world. Adventure meets tranquillity, deserts meet tropical beaches and vibrant cities like Muscat meet lonely camps in the middle of nowhere. In the fall, the heat is already over, so you can expect pleasant temperatures and plenty of time for activities such as sightseeing, hiking, sandboarding or safaris in the Wahiba Sands.

Our favorite accommodation on this trip:

Alila Jabal Akhdar, which is spectacularly situated in the mountains at 2,000 meters above sea level.

Southern Europe

Italy, Portugal, Turkey

It doesn't always have to be a summer vacation on our beautiful home continent. Countries such as Italy, Portugal and Turkey also show their best side during the fall vacations. The heat of summer has dropped to mild temperatures, the warm light shines atmospherically on the landscape and there are fewer tourists than in the high season. Whether in a Tuscan country house, on the Portuguese Atlantic or between olive trees and the sea in Turkey, these places show the full beauty of Europe.

Italy

A family vacation in Umbria in the lovingly restored Castello di Reschio means one thing above all: idyll. The castle is located on an estate nestled in a picturesque hilly landscape with lush greenery, cypress trees and numerous vineyards. In a place like this, a two-week fall vacation seems far too short, as there is so much to discover and experience. Guided tours through the historic surroundings, horse riding, spa and, last but not least, the region of Umbria, known as the "green heart of Italy".

Portugal

Portugal, the land of explorers. And you too can become explorers with your family on a 14-day round trip. From Lisbon to the Algarve in the south, you will get to know Portugal's diverse sides, as the country has much more to offer than surfing and port wine. Immerse yourself in the vibrant culture of Lisbon, relax on the 17-hectare estate of the popular Sublime Comporta, which combines casual luxury with beach flair, and get to know an unknown side in the east, the Alentejo region. The end of the trip takes you to the sunny Algarve with its golden beaches and striking rocky coastline.

Turkey

Our round trip through Turkey offers your family exciting contrasts on land and water, complete relaxation, historical treasures, lots of activities and a one-week stay on board the luxurious gulet Dolce Mare.

You start in the lively metropolis of Istanbul with impressive buildings such as the Hagia Sophia. Then it's time to take a break at D Maris Bay on the Datça Peninsula, which we warmly recommend. The picturesque location in a tranquil bay, surrounded by mountains and forests, will quickly bring you back to the here and now. Another highlight awaits you in the second week: sail through the most beautiful waters of Turkey on the luxury yacht Gulet Dolce Mare and enjoy modern luxury without the tourist crowds. Cast off for your family adventure in Turkey.

USA

Indian summer in the land of opportunity

Autumn in the USA is a feast for the eyes, also known as Indian Summer. A two-week round trip with your family through the USA has pretty much everything to offer: sunny beaches in California, vibrant, dazzling Las Vegas and majestic landscapes in Utah and Montana. The journey takes you from bustling cities to spectacular desert landscapes in complete seclusion. In Montana, the forests glow in warm shades of red, orange and yellow and on a real ranch, children and parents experience adventures like in old western movies with John Wayne and Clint Eastwood.

Our favorite ranches on this trip:

The Resort at Paws and The Ranch at Rock Creek in Montana: authentic western romance, nature adventures, first-class luxury in rustic style.

Hawaii

Hawaii is also part of the USA, but on the other side of the world . The dry season begins there in the fall vacations, making it the perfect place for a long-distance trip to this place of longing.

For the start of an individual round trip or for the entire duration of your stay, we recommend the Rosewood Kona Village. This resort enchants with its scenery, but above all with its detached luxury suites in Polynesian-Hawaiian style, the so-called Hales. Rosewood Kona Village is nestled in a fertile volcanic landscape and is a constant reminder of Hawaii's beauty. Entertainment is also provided, for example there are hula workshops for kids and volcano hikes for the whole family.

India

Journey to another world

From Indian summer in the USA to colorful India. Temples, markets, festivals or an encounter with a Bengal tiger - India really does touch all the senses. Because India can be overwhelming with its many new sights and smells, we recommend a tailor-made round trip with cultural depth and relaxed comfort.

You will get a first insight into India's capital Delhi and find a retreat at The Oberoi Hotel. The route continues to the Taj Mahal and the "Pink City" of Jaipur. You will get to know the landscape and wildlife of India on various safaris and, with a bit of luck, you will spot leopards, a great highlight of this trip. At the Taj Lake Palace in Udaipur, you and your family will follow in royal footsteps, as this truly royal hotel was once the summer residence of the Mewar royal family.

A week's family vacation in November

Just one week in a different place can be enough to completely switch off from everyday life and top up your vitamin D levels. Discover our recommendations for a one-week trip during the fall vacations.

Morocco

Orient for beginners

Marrakech is a magical place in November with its golden autumn sun, mild temperatures, mysterious alleyways and magnificent palaces. If you want to experience a week full of contrasts and culinary highlights in this country, you should combine city life with a trip to the impressive Atlas Mountainson a round trip through Morocco. Camel excursions, hikes or visits to souks, the traditional markets, offer families new and impressive perspectives.

Our hotel recommendations for Marrakech:

La Sultana Marrakech: In the heart of Marrakech's medina, La Sultana is a charming oasis with exceptional gardens and courtyards. A highlight of this 5-star boutique hotel is undoubtedly the 2,000 square meter roof terrace with views of the souks, the mosque and the Atlas Mountains.

The Oberoi Marrakech: A stay in this palatial gem is a feast for all the senses. The architecture is inspired by the palaces of ancient Morocco and exudes pure elegance with every inch. The luxurious resort is set in around 113,000 square meters of grounds with orchards and centuries-old olive groves and promises peace and seclusion.

Kasbah Tamadot: The Kasbah Tamadot is spectacularly situated in the foothills of the Atlas Mountains and yet only around an hour's drive from Marrakech. In this fabulously beautiful hideaway, families can look forward to exceptional suites and tents in Moroccan style and enjoy the warm hospitality of the local team.

Abu Dhabi

Desert, luxury and beach life

Culture, culinary delights, luxury and the deep feeling of space and vastness in the desert: a round trip through Abu Dhabi in mild temperatures in Novemberpromises all of this. Immerse yourself and your family in a mix of beach vacation and desert adventure and experience a starry sky at night that will leave you speechless. Camel rides, sandboarding on dunes and treasure hunts for children make Abu Dhabi the perfect destination for an autumn vacation.

Our favorite accommodation on this trip:

Qasr Al Sarab Desert Resort by AnantaraA dream of a luxurious, secluded oasis in Abu Dhabi that offers exciting adventures, magical sunsets and desert luxury.

Southern Europe

Hours of sunshine on the Mediterranean

Short flight times, still mild temperatures and plenty of culinary delights are just three of the many reasons why European destinations on the Mediterranean are also worth a trip in November. You don't always have to go far away to get away from it all.

Our hotel tips on the Mediterranean:

Anassa in Cyprus: the Anassa is nestled between rolling hills and offers luxurious accommodation in an idyllic setting. Families can enjoy a wide range of activities, including guided tours to ancient ruins, sailing, diving and pottery. For children of all ages, there are entertainment programs to make every heart beat faster.

Daios Cove on Crete: This luxury resort combines stylish design, first-class service and a wide range of family activities in a fantastic location in the middle of a wild and romantic bay. Kids Club and leisure activities for teens provide variety, while parents enjoy peace, wellness and culinary highlights.

⭐ Boho or sophisticated? Both wonderful, in our opinion. On the Côte d'Azur, we recommend the boho-chic Hotel Lily of the Valley and the sophisticated beauty Airelles Château de la Messardière. The hotels are located close to dreamy Saint-Tropez, where luxury and lifestyle go hand in hand and yet leave enough space to explore France's historical charm and the countryside with the family.

⭐ Spain is the Germans' favorite travel destination, and how could it not be? For the fall vacations, we recommend Marbella on the Costa del Sol. The Puente Romano and Marbella Club resorts both offer that typical Marbella feeling, while the Ikos Andalusia is particularly suitable for families who are keen on sports and want an active vacation.

Tenerife, the largest of the Canary Islands, is also a classic and attracts millions of tourists every year. Nevertheless, our two 5-star hotel tips offer an exclusive retreat with a view of the Mediterranean. For those who like it classic, we recommend the Ritz-Carlton Abama with its terracotta-colored buildings. The Royal Hideaway Corales Suites shows a modern face with its unusual and open design.

South Africa

Safari, outdoor and Winelands in one week

No time difference and lots of experiences: A family vacation in South Africa is also ideal for a week during the autumn vacations. This is springtime with pleasant temperatures that are particularly suitable for outdoor activities such as safaris, hikes or a visit to the Winelands.

Our idea for your family vacation:

⭐ Great for a week: safari in the Kruger National Park at Royal Malewane and then a few days at La Residence in the Winelands.

⭐ For a stay in Cape Town: The Silo, with its iconic architecture.

⭐ The wild Kalahari with the resorts Tswalu Loapi or Tswalu The Motse, which offer families adventures in the middle of nowhere.

City breaks with style

In just one week, families can broaden their horizons on a city break and gather lots of new impressions. Whether near or far, these cities make the fall vacations a special event.

Tokyo & Kyoto

Two worlds, one adventure: in futuristic Tokyo, families can look forward to sushi masters, digital museums and glowing city districts. In autumnal Kyoto, Zen gardens and the magic of ancient temples beckon. The Aman Tokyo and the Aman Kyoto offer tranquillity, luxury and cultural enjoyment at their best. In addition, each luxury hotel shows a side of Japan in its own way.

New York City

A family adventure in the Big Apple: art, parks, shopping and spectacular views from Central Park to the High Line. In the fall, Manhattan is decked out in shades of gold. The Aman New York is an urban retreat with views of Central Park and private spa houses, a perfect place to relax after an eventful day in the popular metropolis.

Rome

Antiquity meets dolce vita: gladiators in the Colosseum, ice cream in Piazza Navona and a historic walk through the Roman Forum. Rome is full of history and impressive buildings and is perfect for curious families looking for an interesting mix of dolce vita and culture in Italy's capital.

Paris

Paris is a dream for connoisseurs of all ages. The idea of the Eiffel Tower, boat trips on the Seine and crêpes in Montmartre inspires anticipation and quickly has everyone sitting on packed suitcases. Autumn brings golden leaves and a soft light over the city. Families will find plenty of space to relax in charming city hotels.

London

London is worth experiencing and will enchant even the last proponent of a beach vacation with its royal touch, red buses and, of course, the changing of the guard at Buckingham Palace. London is a city with a long history and combines this with urban flair. Luxurious family rooms and afternoon tea in elegant hotels round off an autumn vacation in this metropolis.

Copenhagen

In Copenhagen, Scandinavian chic meets cosiness: colorful houses, hygge cafés and Amalienborg Palace, the city residence of the Danish King Frederik X. Copenhagen inspires with its Nordic warmth and conveys a homely feel-good atmosphere in which families can completely relax.
