andBeyond Sossusvlei Desert Lodge
in our eyes
Sossusvlei Desert Lodge is our absolute favourite in Namibia, seamlessly blending adventure with comfort. Whether you are gliding across endless sand dunes by quad bike, savouring sundowners amid breathtaking landscapes or taking a helicopter excursion that leads to breakfast in extraordinary settings, every moment here feels unforgettable. For those who would rather not tackle the climb up "Big Daddy", the lodge offers an exhilarating helicopter alternative, revealing the drama of the desert from above.
Best time to travel
The best time to visit Sossusvlei in Namibia is between April and September. During these months, temperatures are pleasantly cool and the dry conditions bring clear, sunny days, ideal for exploring the spectacular dune landscapes. In principle, Namibia – including the Sossusvlei region – is a year-round destination thanks to its climate, although the Namibian summer months can bring extreme heat in the desert.
The cool morning temperatures offer ideal conditions for photographers hoping to capture the unique play of light as the rising sun touches the dunes. These months are also perfect for exploring the surrounding Namib Desert without the intense heat that can occur in the summer months.

Anreise
After arriving in Windhoek, continue to the lodge by charter flight or off-road vehicle. The drive of around five hours through the striking landscapes of the Namib Desert already offers unforgettable views and your first immersive encounters with nature.
Sossusvlei
Set in the heart of the Namib Desert, Sossusvlei is famed for its majestic red sand dunes, among the highest in the world. The so-called “Big Daddy”, rising to around 325 metres, is one of them. Part of Namib-Naukluft National Park, this striking landscape reveals a surreal desert beauty that is especially spectacular at sunrise and sunset.
For families, Sossusvlei offers countless unforgettable experiences. Climbing the dunes – especially the famous Dune 45 – rewards you with breathtaking panoramic views and a thrilling sense of adventure. A visit to Deadvlei, a mystical clay pan dotted with bizarre, dead camel thorn trees, is captivating in its singular atmosphere and is perhaps the most Instagrammable photo spot of all. Families can also set out to discover desert wildlife, from oryx and springbok to the Little Five, all exquisitely adapted to this harsh climate.
