Best time to travel

The best time to visit the Daintree Rainforest is between May and October, during the dry season. During these months, temperatures are pleasantly warm and rainfall is lower, making conditions ideal for activities such as hiking, boat trips and exploring the region’s diverse wildlife. From November to April, it is the rainy season, with high humidity and frequent downpours — though these also make the waterfalls especially spectacular and the rainforest feel at its most alive.

    Destination region

    Daintree Rainforest

The Daintree Rainforest in north-eastern Queensland is the oldest living rainforest in the world, having existed for more than 135 million years. This lush tropical oasis spans 1,200 square kilometres and offers an extraordinary diversity of flora and fauna, including a number of unique plants and animals. Part of the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Wet Tropics of Queensland, the rainforest is famed for its ancient tree species and complex ecosystem, transporting visitors to another age. Among its best-known highlights are Mossman Gorge and Cape Tribulation, both showcasing the region’s breathtaking beauty and biodiversity.

Guided walks through the rainforest reveal its fascinating plant life and exotic wildlife. Boat trips on the Daintree River offer the chance to observe crocodiles in their natural habitat. A visit to the Daintree Discovery Centre, an interactive visitor centre, offers engaging insight into the history and ecology of the rainforest. Adventurous canopy tours and suspension bridges make a visit here exciting for children and adults alike.
