Great Barrier Reef
The Great Barrier Reef, the largest coral reef system in the world, stretches for 2,300 kilometres along the coast of Queensland and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This extraordinary ecosystem comprises more than 2,900 individual reefs and 900 islands, and is home to a rich diversity of marine life, including vibrant corals, tropical fish, turtles and sharks. Its dazzling colours and vibrant underwater world make the Great Barrier Reef one of the world’s most sought-after destinations for diving and snorkelling.
Children and adults can snorkel together to discover the fascinating marine world, or join a guided glass-bottom boat tour to admire the reef’s beauty without getting wet. Many resorts and operators offer child-friendly programmes and activities, from learning to snorkel to interactive presentations on marine biology. For an added sense of adventure, families can also take a helicopter or seaplane tour to admire the reef from above.
