Best time to travel
The Gulf of Chiriquí in Panama is a perfect destination for nature lovers and beachgoers from December to April. During this dry season, clear sunny days and calm seas create ideal conditions for exploring the breathtaking underwater world. These months also offer the unique chance to watch humpback whales giving birth to their calves in this region. From May to August, the weather reMayns warm and largely pleasant, with occasional showers that keep the landscape green and lush. Activities such as snorkelling, diving and boat trips are also very much possible at this time. The Gulf of Chiriquí, on Panama’s Pacific coast, stretches from the Costa Rican border to the Azuero Peninsula and is known for its striking vegetation, charming white-sand islands and one of the Pacific’s most important coral reefs. This region is home to the Golfo de Chiriquí National Marine Park, which spans 14,740 hectares and protects more than two dozen islands as well as 19 coral reefs.
Families can enjoy a wide variety of adventures in the Gulf of Chiriquí. Island-hopping to charming white-sand isles such as Isla Parida, Isla Gamez and Isla Bolanos offers perfect opportunities for snorkelling and diving in crystal-clear water. The region is also ideal for whale watching between July and October, when humpback whales calve in the warm waters. A kayak or paddleboard excursion through the mangrove forests offers a peaceful way to observe rich birdlife and other wildlife. For adventurous families, the area also offers first-class sport fishing, particularly around Hannibal Bank and Isla Montuosa.
