King Lewanika
in our eyes
Liuwa Plain National Park is one of southern Africa’s least-known protected areas and, for that very reason, a true hidden gem, still only lightly developed. That means there are no convoys of safari vehicles and no second or third row at sightings — only the full experience of untouched nature. Particularly in May and November, when wildebeest and zebra herds begin their migrations, you can look forward to truly unforgettable game drives.
Best time to travel
The best time to visit Liuwa Plain is from November to mid-December, when Africa’s impressive second-largest wildebeest migration takes place. At this time, thousands of wildebeest and other animals move into the open grasslands. November is particularly ideal, as seasonal flooding transforms the landscape into a wetland paradise and draws abundant wildlife.
During the dry season from May to October, water levels are lower and wildlife concentrations around the reMayning water sources increase, also allowing for excellent safari experiences.
