Sayari Camp

Tanzania – Serengeti

award-winning safari experience | wildlife encounters | sustainable luxury

Sayari Camp

About the hotel

Award-winning Sayari Camp in the northern Serengeti is an exceptional place from which to witness the Great Migration. Set close to the Mara River, it offers a privileged vantage point when vast herds of wildebeest and zebra gather and, as if on an unseen cue, begin their dramatic river crossing. Outside the Great Migration season, the northern Serengeti feels wonderfully peaceful, with few travellers in the area. Sayari Camp offers 15 luxurious tents with mahogany floors and every modern comfort, including walk-in showers and freestanding bathtubs. A particular highlight is the wraparound veranda, where guests can read, unwind or watch wildlife pass by. After an exhilarating day, you can indulge in a soothing spa treatment and simply relax.

Kids & Teens

Children aged five and above are warmly welcomed at Sayari Camp and especially enjoy the exciting, tailor-made family game drives. After a day rich in adventure, the whole family can gather around the campfire and reflect on the day together. For safety reasons, the minimum age for walking safaris is twelve years.

Experiences & Activities

Alongside exceptional game drives, Sayari offers hot air balloon safaris for a bird's-eye view of the landscape and its wildlife. You can also set out on walking safaris to discover the ecosystem and identify details such as tracks, dung, ants and butterflies. To keep you well prepared for your adventures in the wild, the chefs create delicious dishes for every moment of the day, from breakfast and picnics to elegant three-course dinners. Particularly noteworthy is the camp's solar-powered microbrewery in the Serengeti.

Best time to travel

The best time to visit the Serengeti in Tanzania is from June to October. During this dry season, conditions are ideal for the famous wildlife migration, when millions of wildebeest and zebra move through the Serengeti into neighbouring Kenya’s Masai Mara. Days are warm and nights are fresh. Sparse vegetation and clear visibility allow for exceptional wildlife viewing and make it easier to follow the drama of the migration. These months also offer ideal conditions for exploring the Serengeti’s varied landscapes, from vast savannahs to dramatic rock formations and waterholes.

A safari through the park is a wonderful opportunity to encounter the Big Five – lions, elephants, buffalo, leopards and rhino – as well as wildebeest, zebra and a host of other wildlife at close quarters. Particularly impressive is the Great Migration, when millions of wildebeest and zebra move across the Serengeti on their annual journey. For adventurous families, guided walks and hot-air balloon rides offer breathtaking views over the vast plains and wildlife from above. A visit to the local Maasai communities offers the chance to discover the fascinating culture and traditions of this proud people. In the evening, families can relax beneath the African night sky in comfortable safari lodges or tented camps and enjoy the unforgettable sounds of the wild.
