Chem Chem Lodge
Tanzania – Tarangire
Chem Chem Lodge
About the hotel
On the eastern edge of Lake Manyara, set within an ancient African landscape, lies the beautiful Chem Chem Lodge. From the moment you arrive, a sense of calm and stillness takes over, and the pace of everyday life slips instantly away. Small wonders reveal themselves, the senses reawaken, and time fills with memories that linger. The lodge blends seamlessly into the bush landscape. From your veranda or by the pool, you can often watch (grazing) wildebeest or giraffes at a nearby watering hole. Chem Chem spans 20,000 hectares of unfenced wilderness and protects a vital wildlife migration corridor between Tarangire National Park and Lake Manyara National Park.
Kids & Teens
Children aged four and above are warmly welcomed at Chem Chem Lodge. Family time is given real meaning here, with a thoughtful range of activities including fun games, bush skills, guided walks, interactive cooking, marshmallow toasting, wildlife spotting, Maasai beadwork and safari-themed baking. Exactly which activities are possible will also depend on conditions in the bush.
Experiences & Activities
Chem Chem Lodge offers an inspiring range of experiences, from classic daily game drives and guided safari walks to hot air balloon safaris. But have you ever considered taking part in a Maasai blessing ceremony and celebrating alongside the Maasai afterwards? Or perhaps you have always wanted to run across the plains with a Maasai guide for a truly distinctive fitness experience? Chem Chem is deeply woven into the local culture, offering rare opportunities for authentic insight. You can also unwind in the luxurious spa or enjoy evenings spent stargazing.

Chem Chem Lodge
in our eyes
The concept of the slow safari was born at Chem Chem Lodge. Here, you have the rare chance to experience the African wilderness at its own gentle rhythm. Life-giving watering holes, vast salt pans and lush grasslands draw a wealth of wildlife right to your suite – from giraffes and zebras to antelope, monkeys and warthogs. On walking safaris, you can take in this remarkable landscape at close quarters. The lodge is also a paradise for birdwatchers and home to countless species, including spectacular flocks of flamingos. Our recommendation: a visit to a Maasai village and breakfast beneath the baobab tree are unforgettable experiences!
Best time to travel
The best time to visit Tarangire National Park in Tanzania is from June to October. During the dry months, the vegetation is low and sparse and water sources are limited, making animals easier to find. Days are pleasantly warm and nights are cool. For early morning safaris, layered clothing is recommended. This is also an ideal time to observe elephant herds, which are especially numerous in Tarangire National Park, as well as to enjoy guided walks and game drives through the park’s varied landscapes.

Tarangire
Tarangire, an impressive national park in Tanzania, is known for its vast baobab trees – some of them 300 years old – large elephant herds and richly varied wildlife. Its vegetation is wonderfully diverse, ranging from elephant grass and broad stretches of mixed acacia woodland to riverine forests.
Encounter elephant herds, lions and zebra at close quarters with your family, and take in the park’s spectacular landscapes. Guided walks are also available in the park, where both adults and children can learn a great deal about the animal and plant life. A special highlight is camping beneath the African night sky, where families can share stories by the campfire and listen to the sounds of the wild. The Tarangire River draws countless animals and offers fantastic wildlife viewing opportunities. The combination of wildlife encounters and unforgettable nature experiences makes Tarangire an ideal destination for families.
