Giraffe Manor

About the hotel

Set within a 140-hectare sanctuary in Nairobi, Giraffe Manor is a dream come true for giraffe lovers. This elegant, personally run boutique hotel, once a private manor house, was inspired by a Scottish hunting lodge and offers an especially warm and welcoming atmosphere. With its stately façade, elegant interiors, lush green gardens and sunlit terraces, it feels as though it has stepped straight out of the film “Out of Africa”. The hotel’s signature experience is the wonderfully close contact with the giraffes, who join you for breakfast. As you sip your coffee, these long-necked visitors lean their heads through the open dining-room window to wish you “good morning”. Alongside the endangered Rothschild giraffes, the sanctuary is also home to an abundance of birdlife and warthogs. Giraffe Manor is a truly unique experience for adults and children alike!

Kids & Teens

Children of all ages are welcome at Giraffe Manor and feel instantly at home in its warm, family atmosphere. Close encounters with the gentle giraffes delight every child! As well as the giraffes that live right by the hotel, special highlights for little ones include a giraffe kiss and bottle-feeding the irresistibly sweet baby elephants at the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust. A safari in nearby Nairobi National Park brings an added sense of adventure for children.

Experiences & Activities

Activities at Giraffe Manor include feeding the giraffes directly from bedroom windows, at breakfast and during afternoon tea, visits to the Giraffe Centre in Nairobi, and walks through the sanctuary grounds. We also recommend excursions to the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, the Karen Blixen Museum, the Matbronze Art Gallery and Marula Studios. Nairobi is an adventure in its own right. Embrace the city, then unwind after an exciting day out in the spa at Giraffe Manor. Afterwards, enjoy a cappuccino adorned with a giraffe motif in cocoa powder.

Giraffe Manor

in our eyes

What a joy it is to feed giraffes – or even receive a kiss from one! At Giraffe Manor, you come wonderfully close to the rare Rothschild giraffes — an unforgettable experience for the whole family! The Sheldrick Wildlife Trust is equally moving: orphaned baby elephants and endangered rhino are cared for there with extraordinary dedication. These glimpses into conservation, together with bottle-feeding the baby elephants, are deeply touching. These are the kinds of experiences that leave the most lasting memories.

Best time to travel

The best time to visit Nairobi is between June and September. During this dry season, temperatures are mild and humidity is low, making it ideal for exploring the city and its surroundings. Nairobi National Park, famous for lying right on the edge of the city, offers particularly rewarding wildlife viewing in these months, as the sparse vegetation makes animals easier to spot.

    Nairobi

Nairobi, Kenya’s vibrant capital, sits on a high plateau and blends modern urban energy and tradition with untamed nature. Known for its skyline, lively (Maasai) markets and rich history, the city enjoys a pleasant climate year-round. Nairobi is also home to the headquarters of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). Especially worth knowing: thanks to its elevation, Nairobi is considered a malaria-free area.

Families can look forward to adventure: Nairobi National Park offers safari experiences with lions, giraffes and rhinos. At the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, you can visit orphaned baby elephants. The Giraffe Centre offers the chance to feed Rothschild’s giraffes. Karura Forest, the historically rich urban forest scented with eucalyptus and home to a waterfall, offers a nature escape in the heart of the city and invites visitors to walk and picnic.
