Kenya – Masai Mara
Cottar’s
About the hotel
The award-winning, family-run Cottar's 1920s Safari Camp borders the famed Maasai Mara to the west and the Serengeti in Tanzania. Owned by Africa’s longest continuously operating safari family, the camp offers eleven cream canvas tents styled in the spirit of the 1920s. Each tent has an en-suite bathroom and a private veranda. The main area includes the dining tent, a lounge, pool and spa. Treatments are also available in the evening, allowing guests to enjoy the spa at almost any hour. Cottar’s combines the charm of a bygone era with modern comfort, while championing sustainability and the protection of the wilderness.
Kids & Teens
The children’s programme at Cottar's 1920s Safari Camp is suitable for ages five and above. Cottar’s sees itself as a vast open-air classroom, inviting children – and indeed every generation – to discover the knowledge and wonder of the natural world. Young guests become trackers, identify wildlife, befriend Maasai warriors, join game drives and, with the Cottar Junior Entomology training kit they receive on arrival, become little naturalists themselves. For lighter appetites there is a dedicated children’s menu, and a babysitting service is also available. Good to know: Cottar's is located in a malaria-free area.
Experiences & Activities
Cottar's 1920s Safari Camp offers authentic safari experiences such as game drives, a balloon flight over the Maasai Mara, guided bush walks, visits to the Maasai, traditional bush baths, stargazing and cultural talks. Evenings are spent by the crackling campfire, listening to the guides’ stories of life in the bush, watching Maasai warriors dance, and sipping a delicious cocktail. In the seclusion of the Maasai Mara, the chefs create refined, seasonal dining experiences. Favourite dishes include orange pancakes and roasted butternut soup.
