About the hotel
Jack's Camp is an iconic 1940s-style safari camp set amid the vast Makgadikgadi Salt Pans, where luxury and adventure come together in a truly distinctive way. The nine elegant guest tents are furnished with mahogany furniture, luxurious fabrics, Persian rugs and en suite bathrooms. Each accommodation has a private sun deck with spectacular desert views, where silence and endless horizons cast their spell. Its setting in the heart of the Kalahari makes Jack's Camp an ideal base for experiences such as meerkat encounters, stargazing beneath dark skies, or excursions with the San Bushmen. The pool pavilion, the only one of its kind in Africa, and the historic library are perfect places to unwind after a day of discovery.
Kids & Teens
Jack's Camp offers families an incomparable safari experience in the Makgadikgadi Desert, though there are no dedicated clubs for children or teenagers. Even so, for children and teenagers aged around six and over, the stay is both exciting and enriching: activities such as meerkat encounters, Bushman walks and exploring the desert by quad bike or on foot invite discovery of the region’s remarkable nature and culture.
Experiences & Activities
At Jack's Camp, you can enjoy a wide variety of experiences, including game drives, night drives, horse-riding safaris or a helicopter flight. For the more adventurous, there are also seasonal excursions to the historic Chapman’s Baobab and Kubu Island, as well as stargazing beneath the clear desert sky. Meals are served in an elegant dining area that evokes the atmosphere of another era. Enjoy a blend of locally inspired and international dishes, prepared with fresh regional ingredients.

Jack’s Camp
in our eyes
A holiday in another world? Or perhaps not? Quad biking across the Makgadikgadi Salt Pans, Bushman walks and meerkat encounters — these are truly exceptional experiences the whole family will love! At the same time, the camp itself is an extraordinary place, combining the glamour of the 1940s with every modern comfort imaginable. For families with an adventurous spirit, we wholeheartedly recommend a night in the desert beneath an endless canopy of stars — an unforgettable experience!
Best time to travel
The best time to visit the Makgadikgadi Pans in Botswana is from June to September/October. During these dry months, the region transforms into a stark, almost otherworldly landscape that is perfect for adventurous travellers. Although there is slightly less wildlife at this time of year, it is an excellent opportunity to experience the singular beauty of this desert landscape. The clear, dry conditions offer excellent visibility for photographers. During the dry season, many animals can be found around the Boteti River.
With the arrival of the rains between November and April, the dry pans transform into green grasslands. This is the season of the zebra migration and the arrival of flamingos and other migratory birds. The landscape offers spectacular wildlife viewing, although the roads can be difficult to navigate.

Anreise
Travel to Jack's Camp begins with an international flight to Maun. From there, guests take a charter flight to Jack's Camp Airstrip, which takes around 45 minutes. A short drive by off-road vehicle then brings guests to the camp, set deep within the Makgadikgadi Salt Pans.
Makgadikgadi Pans
The Makgadikgadi Pans in Botswana were once a vast lake that dried out through evaporation. Today, they are among the largest salt pans in the world. Makgadikgadi means “vast lifeless land”. This breathtakingly surreal landscape beguiles with endless salt flats framed by untouched savannah. In the dry season, it feels like a glittering desert, while in the rainy season it becomes an oasis for wildlife.
Families will find unforgettable experiences here. A guided quad biking excursion across the vast salt pans offers a thrilling sense of freedom and adventure. Watch zebras and meerkats at close range. Spending the night in the heart of the salt desert, beneath a clear star-filled sky far from any light pollution, becomes a magical experience for all ages. Insightful Bushman walks introduce the ancient culture of the San and reveal how life is sustained in this stark environment. The Makgadikgadi Pans are a haven for discerning families seeking truly distinctive experiences in nature.
