Best time to travel
The best time to visit the Kalahari is shortly after the rainy season, from March to May, as well as from September to November. In spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November), temperatures are milder and conditions are ideal for desert safaris. These months bring pleasant temperatures, less dust and the chance to fully appreciate the flora and fauna of the Kalahari.
That said, even the hot summer months (December to Februaryy) are well worth considering for a visit. After the long dry season, the region stirs back to life with the first rains. The landscape turns green once more and countless plants begin to bloom.
Travel begins with a flight of around 10 hours from Germany to Johannesburg. From there, direct charter flights are available to the private Tswalu airstrip, just minutes from the lodge.
Kalahari
The Kalahari, a captivating semi-desert in southern Africa, enchants with its endless horizons, red dunes and richly varied wildlife. Tswalu Game Reserve, set within the Kalahari and one of South Africa’s largest private conservation areas, offers families an exclusive and incomparable wilderness experience.
At Tswalu, visitors can observe rare desert species such as the black-maned Kalahari lion, black rhino and wild dogs in their natural habitat. The vast, open landscapes of the Kalahari create ideal conditions for extraordinary wildlife viewing.
For adventurous families, the dune landscapes offer exciting opportunities for hiking and horseback safaris. After a day rich in adventure, the incomparable night sky creates unforgettable moments.
