Best time to travel
The best time to visit Laikipia in Kenya is between June and October as well as December and March, when the dry season offers optimal conditions for wildlife viewing. During these months, the animals are easy to spot and the weather is pleasantly warm. The months of April, May and November also have their own appeal, as the rainy season turns the landscape lush and green and the region feels quieter, although access to some areas may be limited by the weather.
The months of July to October are especially rewarding when the Great Migration is taking place in the neighbouring Masai Mara, while December to March is ideal for birdwatching and clear conditions. Laikipia is a fascinating destination year-round, with a moderate climate and distinctive experiences in every season.
From Germany, the flight to Nairobi takes around 8 hours. From there, you transfer directly to the lodge by private plane or helicopter.
Laikipia
Kenya’s Laikipia region is home to one of East Africa’s most important conservation areas, stretching across a vast savannah landscape. It is home to an extraordinary array of wildlife, including elephants, lions, leopards, giraffes and the rare Grevy’s zebra, as well as the black (“black”) and white (“white”) rhinoceros. Laikipia offers distinctive safari experiences, where visitors can enjoy both traditional game drives and walking safaris. Particularly memorable are experiences such as tracking lions with expert guides or visiting local villages to learn more about Samburu and Maasai culture.
For families, Laikipia is an exceptional destination, with special programmes such as the “Juneor Ranger” and interactive wildlife encounters that will captivate children too. For many, the highlight is the chance to stay in luxurious, eco-conscious lodges and watch wildlife directly from the terrace.
