Best time to travel
The months from June to November are the best time to witness the extraordinary spectacle of manta rays and whale sharks in Hanifaru Bay. July to September in particular sees large numbers gathering in the bay to mate and feed. It is worth noting, however, that the monsoon season runs from May to October, bringing the possibility of brief showers. This does not, however, detract from a diving excursion.
For those who prefer drier days and lower humidity, the months from November to April offer the best conditions for relaxation, watersports and sun-filled beach time. At this time, the sea is calm and the water crystal clear, making it the ideal period for a restorative beach escape
Access is via an international flight to Malé, followed by a 40-minute seaplane flight directly to the island.
Baa Atoll
Baa Atoll in the Maldives, recognised as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve since 2011, is a true paradise for nature lovers and offers a rare opportunity to experience an extraordinary and pristine marine world. The region is especially renowned for the remarkable gatherings of manta rays and whale sharks in Hanifaru Bay. From June to November, plankton in the bay draws these majestic creatures in great numbers, creating an unforgettable experience for snorkelling enthusiasts.
Beyond these natural spectacles, Baa Atoll is of particular ecological importance, with untouched lagoons, coral reefs and mangrove forests supporting exceptional biodiversity. It is the perfect place to immerse yourself in a breathtaking underwater world, while eco-conscious initiatives help preserve the natural beauty and biodiversity of this extraordinary area. Families can look forward to enriching experiences that inspire both children and adults and reveal the wonders of nature in a truly special way.
