This curated journey through Indonesia unfolds at an unhurried pace and is shaped by compelling contrasts. The opening chapter on Java, at Amanjiwo, sets the tone: perched high above the Kedu Plain with far-reaching views of Borobudur, the journey begins with a sense of space, history and clarity. From here, the journey continues to Ubud and Mandapa, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve. The shift into the Balinese jungle is unmistakable – rice paddies, the Ayung River, a world of vivid green. A place to exhale, settle in and sink into Bali’s singular atmosphere. Then comes a change of scene in the very best sense: four nights on board a privately chartered phinisi in Komodo National Park. Days on the water, landings on deserted islands, snorkelling in clear lagoons, evenings beneath open skies – free-spirited, pared-back and deeply immersive. The journey concludes at Nihi Sumba on the remote island of Sumba. Expansive beaches, dramatic landscapes, legendary surf breaks and restorative wellness experiences create a calm yet striking finale to the journey.

Best time to travel

The best time for a journey through Java, Ubud, Komodo and Sumba is during the dry season from May to October, when the weather is warm and the chance of rain is low. These are ideal months for outdoor pursuits such as temple visits on Java, trekking in Ubud, snorkelling or diving in Komodo, and relaxing on the beaches of Sumba. A second excellent time to travel is from March to April, when the rainy season is gradually fading, the landscapes are lush and green, and there are fewer visitors. Occasional rain showers can still occur, though they often enrich the experience of being immersed in nature.

    Arrival and departure: This journey begins with a flight to Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Flight time from Germany is approximately 15–18 hours. Your return journey begins from Sumba via Bali, from where direct flights to Germany are available.
