Sumba Smiles: Small beginnings, big changes

Little people - big opportunities with Sumba Smiles

It starts even before birth.
On the Indonesian island of Sumba, a child's chances in life are often decided in the womb. Malnutrition, lack of access to medical care and structural poverty mean that many children start life at a massive disadvantage.

We have been following the work of the Sumba Foundation for many years. And hardly anywhere is it as clear as here what really matters: small changes that make a noticeable difference.

This is exactly where the Sumba Smiles project comes in.

"The first 1,000 days"

The work of the Sumba Foundation follows a simple but effective principle:
sustainable development starts with basic needs - health, nutrition and access to care.

Many families on Sumba lack precisely these things. Pregnant women and newborns are particularly affected. Many mothers are already malnourished during pregnancy, which increases the risk of complications and often leads to babies being born with a birth weight that is too low.

The consequences often accompany children throughout their lives - from delayed development to health problems.

At the same time, it has been shown time and again:
The first 1,000 days - from pregnancy to the early years of life - are crucial.

During this time, the foundations are laid for a child to grow up healthy and develop its potential.

Our founding family, the Stadlhubers, actively supports the Sumba Smiles project in Karang Indah on a long-term basis. A portion of The Family Project’s proceeds is regularly donated to the program, and we also organize targeted fundraising campaigns whose proceeds go directly to help the local community.

We look forward to helping many more mothers and children in the future and would like to say THANK YOU to everyone who travels with The Family Project and thereby contributes to the success of this project. 🤍
